EA and Disney Team up for some new Start Wars Video Games!

General Disney Parks/Film News has been fairly dry for the last few days, but Disney just announced an exclusive 3 year deal with Electronic Arts (EA) to generate new Star Wars games!

More thoughts after the jump....

Although I'm a bit sad about the demise of Lucas Arts (they did make Maniac Mansion after all...), I'm glad to see the quick licensing of this brand. Star Wars was a rather expensive property that has sat fairly stagnant in the hands of Lucas as of late. I can't say I'm super excited, but I would love to see a game come out of this arrangement that would get me excited. I rather enjoyed 'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic' even though it was generally a HOT MESS. I do think its a bit of a mistake making the partnership an exclusive. It would have been really nice to have some indy game developers that push the boundaries of gaming to get a crack at the Star Wars franchise. At the end of the day, EA will hopefully put out some quality and solid games, which will will help Disney's bottom line and ultimately make me happy.
